Lesson 3

On the third lesson of the IS lesson, I learnt about the HTML codings. It seems amusing to me that just by typing in some codes in the motepad, a website can be created, containing all the information that is typed in. The main tags for a basic HTML coding is the ,,. If we were to look at more advanced ones, there will be tags like

,

---

and many more. And also, you can insert the picture that you want from the source itself. Before this lesson, if I were to be questioned anout HTML codings and stuff, it would seem greek to me. So, I feel really glad that I learnt so many things which I have not in these few weeks.

Forum discussion

From the forum discussion on the http://www.webnewmedia.ning.com/ forum discussion, I have learnt that the views and opinions of other people are very important, as they may have pointed out a fact that I have left out, and so, their opinion are very important. Through the forum discussion, we have gained much more than one alone could have by himself , knowledge about the internet.

Thus,I feel that forum discussion is very beneficial to everyone, because people can learn more things after reading other people's opinions.

My first IS lesson: the internet and WWW

On the first lesson of IS, Mr kent briefed the class on some basic things about the internet like the uses of internet, and how the internet works. From the basics, we have to select a broadband provider,which will allow us the access of internet using our computer. Next, we can search for information on the internet, as the internet itself has become an archive of information.Information about almost anything and everything with the help of a search engine can be found on the internet with a few keywords typed in and ending with a click on the enter button, millions of results will appear on the screen. Next, we also learnt something about what a domain name is. Basically, since the computer cannot read alphabets but only codes, codes are represented by alphabets since human also cannot read codes. Example: if you want to go to yahoo.com, you type in the URL address in words, not the code, like 67.547.97.812(example). The first IS lesson was certainly enjoyable and taught me about many interesting things.
